September 24th, 2009

Sometimes the most industrious businesses don’t just stick to what they know – they expand to capture additional markets and ensure that their appeal reaches a greater scope of clientele. The most recent example of creative branding has occurred with the popular fashion brand Ed Hardy. Keep on reading to find out what they’ve done to re-invent themselves!

Designer Cleansers

Ed Hardy, most recently known for appearing on slacker dad and womanizer Jon Gosselin (of TLC’s Jon & Kate Plus 8 fame). Despite the fact that this has been a big part of the clothing brand’s most recent publicity (sadly), the Ed Hardy Company is expanding to market a product that is currently highly in demand.

Ed Hardy Hand Sanitizer

The most recent addition to the Ed Hardy line has nothing to do with clothing; it’s a designer line of hand sanitizers which allows the brand to market themselves towards the growing concern surrounding the approaching flu season and the H1N1 virus. The cleansing products are available in two different sized bottles, a foaming stick, or pens that dispense the sanitizing gel. Each have a unique design, inspired by tattoo art that Ed Hardy is known for, and they do come with a designer price tag at $3 to $13 per bottle, so they’re best suited for the health conscious with money to burn!

Ed Hardy clothing is a great example of branding that can expand their market and appeal; a necessary move in a time of economic uncertainty.

Wembley Market trader sold counterfeit goods

September 23rd, 2009

A WEMBLEY Market trader has been electronically tagged and given a suspended sentence for “ripping off” shoppers.

Xiaoudan Wu, also known as Kelly Wu, was caught running a stall selling stock consisting almost entirely of knock-off products in November last year.

Trading standards officers seized almost 900 ed hardy clothing and raided two storage facilities linked to the 43-year-old elsewhere in Brent on the back of the operation.

Those sites contained just short of 1,300 items of counterfeit clothing, including handbags, jewellery, shoes and watches.

The goods, worth around £69,000 altogether, were replicas of brands including Louis Vuitton, Dolce & Gabanna, Ed Hardy, Christian Audigier, True Religion, Chanel and Burberry.

The Harlesden resident was handed a six month prison sentence, suspended for a year, at Harrow Crown Court on Friday.

Bill Bilon, of Brent and Harrow Trading Standards, said Wu was “blatantly ripping off” Brent and Harrow residents and shoppers traveling to the market from other parts of the country.

He said: “Not only are the shoppers being ripped off, but the legitimate traders both in the market and in the close surrounding area are facing unfair competition from the cheap and poor quality products being offered as genuine.

“I am confident that our continuing successes in both the magistrates and crown courts against counterfeit traders, will act as a deterrent to others.”

Wu was helped by three employees, two of whom were cautioned and one who fled the country after being released on bail.
