Why can’t Don Ed Hardy just live? It’s not his fault that his tattoo and rock-inspired deisigns have been appropriated by Christian Audigier for clothing and
become the de facto douchebag uniform. No no no, Ed Hardy’s an artist, and he’s got a new book hitting stores on October 15th to prove it.
Written by tattoo historian Alan Govenar, “Ed Hardy: Beyond Skin” attempts to shed light on other aspects of Hardy’s career, like his work as a print maker,
painter and illustrator. The book aims to lend credibility to the idea of Hardy as a serious artist as exhibited through his work in these other mediums. Still,
some images are so burned into your brain that it’s impossible not to chuckle at the sheer audacity of it all.
Pre-order the book at Amazon for roughy $62, or shill for the $3k collector’s edition, which comes in a museum-quality clamshell box and includes limited edition
lithographic prints. 3k for a book? Douchebaggery at its finest.
