Former “Jon and Kate Plus 8″ star Jon Gosselin will soon be distanced even further from TLC; on Friday morning the cable channel and their parent company, Discovery Communications, filed a lawsuit in Maryland claiming that Jon has performed a breach of contract by agreeing to make paid appearances on other shows such as “Entertainment Tonight” and “The Insider.”

One of the foundations of Jon’s contract with TLC is that of exclusivity: regardless of what his own desires are, Jon cannot appear on other TV shows without prior consent. In addition, Jon has talked about some elements of production (including pay) in interviews with Larry King, which is yet another mark against the agreement signed by him and the network.
Jon has taken a rebellious stance against TLC for several months, even before the network came out and announced a potential name change to “Kate Plus Eight.” He has tried unsuccessfully to promote Ed Hardy clothing during episodes of the series, and has also made repeated claims that the show allows Kate to “exploit” his children.
Jon is currently in a quest to keep his children off television, something that could have encouraged TLC to expedite this lawsuit. Without Jon’s consent, they cannot continue any filming of the children and will be forced to push forward with a show starring only Kate.
